'Yelp' reviews about polygraph examiners: so many are fake

Some examiners have their friends write fake positive reviews; some examiners have their friends write fake negative reviews about competitors. Sometimes examiners do such posting themselves, using fake-name Yelp accounts.

Buyer beware when reading positive or negative reviews about polygraph examiners. The lack of guaranteed credibility of Yelp reviews is known so widespread that an episode of 'The Simpsons' was about this topic.

Why do we post complaints about polygraph examiners?

Question: Why do we post complaints about polygraph examiners?

Answer: Transparency, and Education.

Too many polygraph 'associations' appear to 'bury' complaints made about their members. This causes the client to be hurt, and it hurts the reputation of the profession.

We don't post the name of the Examiner. No embarrassment is caused, yet other examiners can see such complaints through the eyes of a grieved client and be sure to avoid such real or perceived issues.

Most examiners are honest and competent.

Complaint about a California polygraph examiner: he charged client $400 to test client at examiner's home; gave an odd polygraph experience story; yelled at client like it was a police interrogation room on TV; said he failed client on questions client claims to have been truthful on

Client says examiner charged $400 for a test when client arrived at Examiner's home. Examiner paced back and forth during test, occasionally yelling "You're lying!" like a cheap TV detective show. Examiner said he had 'polygraphed forty-thousand people in the last forty years' (that would average out to 20 people tested every week for all the weeks of the last 40 years).

Note: previous complaints in the past have this examiner telling others that only he is a real examiner and that others are 'charlatans and fakers'.

Per client, she said: "A guy in Lodi referred me to him. He charged me $100 deposit. I paid the balance of $250 more when I arrived. I told him that I have high blood pressure and that I have used drugs. He said that he knew I was lying about infidelity already, yet he didn't ever hook anything up to me! He said because he had been a prison guard in the past he couldn't test me now. But he would not give me my money back. When I pushed, he kind of threatened me with contacting my husband."
