All per Examinee:
Employer said to be missing a bag of cash, $50,000+
Employer said All six of you must take go and a polygraph test.
Secretary (one of the six to be tested) is said to have found the Examiner and made the arrangements. Yet this examiner has zero advertising and does not come up in a search for those services.
Examiner arrived at Examiner's office in an unmarked police department car, a new black Dodge Charger with the police lighting (and he is said to be an on-duty upper-supervisor for the large city police department where that office is located).
Told Examinee that he is different than all other polygraph examiners because "I am a licensed polygraph examiner and have to be tested yearly to keep my license" and "Only my tests are allowed in court because I use a special test that is approved by Congress" (both would be untrue if he said them).
Examiner told Examinee several times during the test that "It says it is 99% likely that you are lying".
When test was done, he said "Now I'm 100% sure you are the one who stole the money. Admit it now or I'm notifying the ___ ____ Police Department" (city where Examinee worked). Examinee told him he was wrong and left.
Examinee went home, found a private/neutral examiner for a re-test. Examinee had written down word-for-word almost every question he had been asked by the police examiner. It was found that the C questions were so improper that anybody taking the test would be computer-scored as Failing!
Examinee passed the test administered by the neutral (and far more experienced) Examiner.
Another person tested by the police examiner came back to work horribly upset and unwilling to talk. Likely another "You failed. Confess or I notify the ___ ___ police" threat.

You might consider becoming a polygraph examiner (in most states there are an average of less than one private polygrapher per county). You need two things: the knowledge and the equipment. Knowledge can come from a workshop and a textbook; equipment, there are four brands of computerized polygraph instruments, look for used versions of the more desirable models.
Most polygraph tests are for relationship/infidelity. But there are also tests for theft, immigration, substance abuse, contract disputes and more.
Polygraph is the highest-paid-per-hour of the common investigative specialties.
See PolygraphAcademy.com for more information. Learn directly from polygraph examiners who operate successful private polygraph businesses.

Reason for increased complaints about examiners badmouthing others and inflating their own abilities:
Reason for increased complaints about examiners badmouthing others and inflating their own abilities:
From Thanksgiving through New Year's, that is a 'slow season' for many examiners. Most potential clients are instead spending their money on Christmas gifts and travel. Some examiners, feeling the lack of income, are more prone to such unprofessional behavior. Those that professionally improve their businesses all year long instead of gossiping are more prepared for slow times.

Complaint about a (different) California polygraph examiner: Examiner gave caller a price quote. When caller thanked him and said would think about it and was hanging up, he interjected that his lower-priced competitor is 'an entertainer who inflates how many tests he does'.

Examiner who lied to the caller actually lives in another state. The competitor he badmouthed has been testing far longer than him and has completed far more examinations than him, and offers a much more reasonable price than him.
Caller chose to use the examiner he badmouthed.

Per Client: Client was looking for an examiner in Southern California to test spouse. One examiner reached gave the silly answer mentioned above. She told this to each other examiner she next called; they all told her how ridiculous his statement was.
Client decided to use a more reasonably-priced examiner that did not make such a ridiculous claim. Polygraph testing is done by computer following Federal guidelines. The computer doesn't know how much a client paid. It is the same test whether a dollar was paid or a thousand dollars was paid. There is no adjustment for more accuracy . . .
