Hot weather polygraph test issues with graphics

 Hot weather polygraph test issues

Some people are showing up for tests dehydrated and not knowing it.

The examiner doesn't know it until ready to start the test, and sees to activity at the eda/gsr (usually a green line).

Sadly, some examiners are administering the test as-is, instead of properly correcting it by drinking a lot of water, then 30 minutes later begin the test, now that the moisture has left the stomach and made it to the extremities (fingertips). The shortcut of instead using ekg stickers at the palm of the hand, if it does detect some eda/gsr, is less reliable than the correct method.

Analogy: like a car without gas cannot get a speeding ticket, an examinee without proper moisture can not have a sizeable deception reaction. Many false-pass results come from lack of eda/gsr.

Worse, some amateur examiners are telling people not to worry about drinking water before the test, adding to the problem.

It's hot weather: polygraph examiners should be telling you to drink plenty of water in the hour before testing

It's hot weather: polygraph examiners should be telling you to drink plenty of water in the hour before testing

Of all four medical tracings monitored during a polygraph exam, the one for moisture changes at the fingertips is the most critical. If dehydrated, there can not be the same reaction during lying as if properly hydrated for the testing.

An analogy is: a car can't get a speeding ticket if it is out of gas.

Some less-experienced examiners will simply ignore the lack of fingertip 'sweat' changes and just monitor the blood and breathing, greatly reducing accuracy.

In this heatwave, unless you drink plenty of water before your test, your examiner can not read moisture changes at your fingertips.

This will render the testing almost useless.

Hot weather: what Examiners should know

Hot weather reminder for Examiners: have your examinees drink plenty of water in the hour or so before the test

Hot weather reminder for Examiners: have your examinees drink plenty of water in the hour or so before the test.

Otherwise, dehydration with cause an interruption to gsr/eda/sc. Could cause need to use the white stickers on the palms instead of regular fingertip connections.

NOTE: water means water-- not soda, not coffee, not Gatorade.
