By telephone, a long-time polygraph examiner told a caller who had inquired about prices to not use any other examiner, that all others are'charlatans' that are all pretenders and that only he gives a real test.
He said about one long-time competitor "(He) is an ex-cop who doesn't know what he's doing with a polygraph" (a long-time experienced examiner). About another, "(He) is in court 4 or 5 days a week, being sued by his clients" (another long-time examiner, who has never been sued by a client).
The caller did not do business with the shit-talker. And educated clients do not hire (un)professionals who bad-mouth their competitors.

Complaint about a California polygraph examiner: A woman researched polygraph for her brother a theft situation. A mobile examiner who has no office told her $600 to come to her. Caller said brother is a military vet, any discount? Mobile examiner said $525 if he shows military ID. Then he badmouthed his competitors by telling her that his competitors "aren't licensed".
This prompted her to call other examiners. She learned from honest examiners that NONE of them are licensed: California quit licensing examiners at the end of the 1980s!
He would have been hired had he not badmouthed his competitors. Instead, client drive 90 miles to have the testing be done-- at an examiner's office-- by a more professional examiner.
NOTE: In California's 58 counties, almost all of California's 50 working private polygraph examiners are professionals who focus on their businesses and do not speak ill of other examiners. But there are three that are actually known for badmouthing other examiners (yet only verbally, not in writing, as they don't want to leave evidence that would help them to be sued), and educated clients choose to NOT use such '(un)professionals' who badmouth others.
