Employer said to be missing a bag of cash, $50,000+
Employer said All six of you must take go and a polygraph test.
Secretary (one of the six to be tested) is said to have found the Examiner and made the arrangements. Yet this examiner has zero advertising and does not come up in a search for those services.
Examiner arrived at Examiner's office in an unmarked police department car, a new black Dodge Charger with the police lighting (and he is said to be an on-duty upper-supervisor for the large city police department where that office is located).
Told Examinee that he is different than all other polygraph examiners because "I am a licensed polygraph examiner and have to be tested yearly to keep my license" and "Only my tests are allowed in court because I use a special test that is approved by Congress" (both would be untrue if he said them).
Examiner told Examinee several times during the test that "It says it is 99% likely that you are lying".
When test was done, he said "Now I'm 100% sure you are the one who stole the money. Admit it now or I'm notifying the ___ ____ Police Department" (city where Examinee worked). Examinee told him he was wrong and left.
Examinee went home, found a private/neutral examiner for a re-test. Examinee had written down word-for-word almost every question he had been asked by the police examiner. It was found that the C questions were so improper that anybody taking the test would be computer-scored as Failing!
Examinee passed the test administered by the neutral (and far more experienced) Examiner.
Another person tested by the police examiner came back to work horribly upset and unwilling to talk. Likely another "You failed. Confess or I notify the ___ ___ police" threat.

Sometimes polygraph associations say 'Don't do TV'. Here's why.
For years, some polygraph associations have said "Don't do polygraph on TV-- no matter what, it always make polygraph look bad".
Usually that statement is wrong. Most shows go great, increasing calls to examiners in the days after a popular show used polygraph. An example: when Oprah involved a polygraph on her TV show, calls to examiners greatly increased in the days following.
Most TV shows are told: there is no accuracy if the examinee moves, nods, or says anything other than Yes or No. And if it was 'for real', a pattern and guidelines must be followed. TV producers say "This is just for entertainment, very silly, we won't stick to guidelines about question count and sitting still as a statue and waiting time between each question". It is explained that all answers that don't follow the strict no-movement no-laughing guidelines will be unscorable.

Potential client was calling around for prices to have her boyfriend tested for infidelity. Examiner badmouthed a specific examiner when she said was simply calling around price shopping right now. Then Examiner said "I will ask your boyfriend as many questions as you want on the polygraph, unlimited, in an hour an a half, for $600" (not an approved format; the accuracy would suffer).
Potential client telephoned the examiner badmouthed by this "$600 for unlimited' examiner.
Client chose to use the examiner that did no badmouthing.

Examiner tests a man regarding the sexual touching of his children and about cheating on his wife.
Client passes all questions EXCEPT the one about cheating on his wife.
Over and over he failed only that question. Extra charts are administered-- same results.
Client later contacts Examiner. Client tells examiner that unless he tells his (client's) wife that a mistake was made and that he truly passed, Client would make complaints on the Internet and not remove them until the fake correction was made. Said he would "be back in a week with pass reports from two other polygraph examiners".
Examiner told him to pound sand. Fake complaints are rampant in the polygraph profession-- some even put up by other examiners using fake names!
ONE MONTH LATER: No pass report has arrived, let alone two!

Contestant who failed a polygraph test at a natural bodybuilding competition gave an unusual excuse-- before he was even tested!
Respected bodybuilder organizations that require 'natural only' (no steroids, HGH, diuretics etc in the past 7 years) use polygraph to confirm compliance.
A Hispanic male contestant told his polygrapher during the pre-test interview that "I read an article that said most Hispanics and Blacks fail polygraphs". Examiner explained to him that the instrument does not know the race of the person being tested.
Contestant failed over and over on steroid use while passing questions on all other banned substances.
He was offered the 'second chance' option: a quick blood test. He refused.

But then examiner blurted out "You can find a guy who does testing for $250, but it won't be as good as a $350 exam". Client asked what the difference would be, examiner could not answer.
Examiner honestly advised client that the actual polygraphing portion is only a short three 5-minute chart collections. Client again asked, "So what then is different with the guy you mentioned's $250 than with your three 5-minute chart collections for $350? Again examiner could not answer.
Alerted by this examiner that a cheaper price for a test was available elsewhere, client hired a lower-priced examiner who did not badmouth other examiners, and received a proper examination.

Man contacted a private examiner. When Man told the private examiner that only two connections were made to Man's body during the police testing, that revealed that it was likely not a real polygraph examination.

Complaint about a Hawaii polygraph examiner: Caller asks him for a price on an infidelity polygraph test. Undisclosed to caller, Examiner is not really in Hawaii. Examiner tells caller he must first pay for a session with a relationship counselor in HI who is affiliated with the examiner. NOTE: similar reports from prior year(s), same examiner.

Complaint about a California polygraph examiner: Probation officer required PCSOT testing to be done at a certain 'long-time' examiner, allegedly a friend of his. Examiner allegedly falsely accused Examinee of 'using countermeasures' and then failed him. Then it was learned that Examiner was really a new examiner, 2 years, who had taken over the practice of a retired long-time examiner. The website thus could be considered deceptive.

Why polygraph reports do not include 'charts'
Why exam reports don't include 'raw data' or 'charts'
In the 70s, 80s and 90s, often a polygraph report to be used in court could include a tube of rolled up paper. It was a long chart paper of four wiggly lines with a lot of handwriting on it.
Modern-era polygraph testing is done using computerized equipment. No more ink and paper problems for examiners! The wiggly lines are instead viewed in colors as they move across a laptop screen.
The digital files involved are like movies in that they are harddrive memory-hogs. Many examiners discard them after reviewed for verbal results or for a written report. Regardless, these digital files can only be opened and viewed by persons who own the exact polygraph software used to do the original testing data capture, and there are four competing (and not at all interchangeable) polygraph software formats.
Typically, charts have no evidence value, as they are just wiggly lines with no provable indication of what was asked at that point in time, and there is no irrefutable proof as to when recorded or who was recorded. If 'the other side' doesn't believe an examiner's report, they won't believe charts either.
Also, some examiners guaranteeing privacy to their clients assure that all charts and notes involved in the testing are destroyed at the end of testing, and that no later discussion of the testing will be done without the examinee's permission.

Complaint about a Nevada polygraph examiner: Client arrived, and found it was NOT the long-time licensed polygraph examiner listed on the website. Charged her $500, then tested her son. Said results 'Inconclusive' (he couldn't tell if son was lying or not). Would not refund her despite not giving her a usable result one way or another.

Potential client received a call back from an examiner he had called. He realized other examiners had already given the client quotes, so he started badmouthing of his competition. And he added that to 'get it done right', it would cost $3000 PER PERSON!
Background: that high-quoting examiner, in his 70s, actually had moved far away to a different county and is not actually in the city listed in his advertising.
Client instad had the testing done by a proper-quoting examiner.
